Today I will narrate you a small story, no…..no…… I will remind you of a story. Once there was a father and a son. Father asked his son, what is this? Son replied, it is a crow. After sometime, he again asked and son again replied the same. It continued for a while with some time interval. Lastly, his son got irritated and said, “I have told you ten times that it is a crow. Why don’t you remember.” The father said,  “son, you had asked me the same question hundred times, when you were little but I did not get irritated”.

This story is repeated in almost every house, where they have old age parents or grandparents. There are lots of habits, associated with old age, like memory loss, repeating things again and again, talking too much, rigidity in behaviour, etc. Though these problems are harmless but are annoying, if we don’t understand the situation. Once we accept that it is bound to happen to almost all the old age persons, may be Sooner or later, then we will feel comfortable in handling the issues. Actually till date we have known the term parenting in context of our children, but dear, let me tell you that handling old age parents or grandparents is also parenting, as they tend to be childlike at this age. Shhhhhhh…….. Don’t let them know that you are treating them as your children. Nobody accepts the factors that are associated with old age and reminding them that they are losing memory or repeating things again and again or becoming adamant, will hurt their ego. We should smartly handle our old age parents or grandparents as they have been doing in our young age and in a manner that they are convinced to do whatever is beneficial for them. I know, it’s time consuming but just remember those old days when we had been demanding so much time and our parents used to attend us despite their busy schedule and pre-occupations.

I have a friend, whose father narrates his past time stories repeatedly. He listens to him patiently and never gets irritated. He told me that he listens to the stories again and again, just to see the smile and happiness on his face and after all, what else does he have to talk about because he is getting old day by day and is cut off from rest of the world.

As we manage to spare time for children, our hobbies, entertainment, similarly we need to spend time with our old age parents and handle them with care. Let’s start parenting our old age parents and grandparents covertly.

Happy parenting!!!

Today everybody is well acquainted with the name – ‘Art of living’. The name itself manifests the purpose of organisation.  If you take up courses taught in this organisation only then you will experience the bliss as you can’t enjoy swimming unless you get into water. So, one has to start the journey on this path and rest of the things will follow automatically. There are a lot of courses in Art of Living but the chief feature is Sudarshan Kriya. There are many published papers regarding benefits of Sudarshan kriya which says that it releases such hormones which reduces stress, increases release of happy hormones & antioxidants, balances LDL/HDL levels and changes the nature of malignant cells. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar ji has formulated it in a manner to make it accessible for a common man too.

Sudarshan Kriya practice makes a person healthier, happier and gives a feeling to be on the top of the world. Stress is the killing element in one’s life and daily practice of Sudarshan Kriya helps in dealing with the stress, actually I would say that it does not let the stress to come at all. Attitude towards life changes. People say that they don’t have time to spare for such things but let me tell you that you just do the course and your experience of Sudarshan Kriya will itself manage you to do the Kriya daily. It’s not merely a course rather it’s a full package of happiness, health, time management and spirituality. One thing which comes in bonus is the Art of Living family. You will never feel like a stranger there. The way in which these courses are organised by the faculties, is commendable. The bond between teacher/guru and participant/devotee is forever.

I am writing this, not on the basis of any survey or articles. My own experience has inspired me to write this and also the experience shared by the persons who have done the course at my instance.

Come let’s fly high with joy and happiness coupled with good health.

Immunity is the most talked about word/subject these days. Though it’s not that we should be concerned about our immunity only when there is epidemic or pandemic or our body suffers from any disease. Immunity for body should be taken care of on daily basis irrespective of the body being healthy. It’s not such thing which can be developed overnight. It’s a continual process.

The wholesome meal taken at a time should always incorporate three types of foods, i.e. 1 Body building foods, 2 Energy giving foods, 3 Protective & Regulatory foods. It’s the third category of foods through which we develop immunity. In this article, I will talk only about the third category of foods. The vitamins and minerals required for our body enhance immunity. Though the quantity of vitamins and minerals required for body is very less yet very essential. We need to incorporate these foods not only daily in our diet rather in every meal of the day. Most of the vitamins and minerals are not stored in the body and excess of it is excreted by the body. If we eat reasonably and diligently then our demand for vitamins and minerals is fulfilled very easily. We need not to make extra effort for it. Most of the vegetables, fruits, salads and other accompaniments in the meal provide vitamins and minerals. In addition to it, certain foods like ginger, amla and turmeric also boost immunity and these items are liberally used in every indian cuisine. If we ensure to take seasonal fruits, salads, dry fruits and other accompaniments, daily in our diet, then it would suffice the purpose. As we know, salad can be prepared in various types as per taste, like wise, fruits can also be consumed in the way we like, for example, if somebody doesn’t like eating a banana then it can be consumed in the form of banana shake or with curd as fruit raita. There are very little things which can improve quality of meal and at the same time will enhance the taste, such as, adding a little bit of lime juice to dal or pickle with parantha, khichdi or dal-rice.

The process of absorption of nutrients in the body is very complex and hard to understand for a common man. Therefore, to put it in simpler manner, one should try to incorporate maximum colours in meal by way of different food items. To make it understand practically, let us assume a meal having following items:

Kidney beans( rajmah)

Rice

Cucumber curd

Chapati

Pumpkin vegetable

The above dishes would have rajmah, tomatoes, onion, green chillies, rice, curd, cucumber, coriander leaves, wheat, pumpkin and onions. It means that the meal would have colours like red, white, green and yellow and it would easily provide all three categories of foods, body-building, energy giving and protective & regulatory foods.

So we should try to incorporate foods of different colours which would provide us all the nutrients. In addition to this, moderation is the thumb rule. To maintain good immunity level, the nutritious diet should be consistent.
